Gifts That Make Their Heart Melt Based on Their Love Language
Matching Presents to Love Languages
This week, Michelle and I discuss the five love languages and how to choose a gift for each person based on their love language.
This year, my friends Jess and Kevin blew it out of the park when they gave me this rapid egg cooker. It can soft boil, medium boil, hard boil and poach eggs perfectly every time! Jess and Kevin know that I eat a lot of eggs and that I love efficiency which made this gift so thoughtful.
Based on Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages and the love language quiz, receiving gifts is my number one love language. For me, a gift is so thoughtful because it shows that someone was thinking of me when I was not there with them. I also like gifts because they are non-invasive. Unlike other languages, gifts do not take up my time (quality time), they do not involve someone touching me (touch), or someone completing something in an incompetent manner (acts of service). Yes, I know, I'm fun.
For a gift lover, going the extra mile with nice packaging adds a cherry on top of the gift experience. Again, I love it because it demonstrates that this person was thinking about me when I was not there. I see the beautiful wrapping paper and imagine them meditating on their love for me as they fold each crease and lay down each piece of tape.
If you want to win the gift-giving prize for the year, do not get sloppy when you present your gift to your receiver. There is something very vulnerable and sweet about the moment when someone hands you a gift. It's a wonderful opportunity to pause, take them in, and say something sweet. However, if you are like me and being thoughtless, you might throw the gift at them and tell them about how you found a great deal on their gift using a coupon code. YIKES! Don't do this. Be thoughtful and pause and use this moment as a time to share something about what you like about this person.
