Sure, I love the holidays. The colorful light shows on the most extra neighbors’ home, Christmas tree competitions at the bougie hotel and bubbles flying through the air representing fake snow in a town that bundles up when the temperature bottoms up at barely freezing. Not mention, December ends with the best holiday of all time, my birthday.
However, I find I can get a bit grinchy and antsy around this time of year too.
I realized part of this unsettled feeling comes from the fact that it’s often a slower time of year for me. Not in a fun way. My friends who are typically tied to a corporate timetables are on vacation and tend to leave town to visit their families. People seem less focused on business and more time on family and merriment.
This is wonderful, but for me, I often unintentionally stop doing things important to me around this time of year too, even though I have a nontraditional work schedule and saw my family plenty in the off season.
So instead of being filled with Christmas cheer, I get moody. I feel unproductive and I don’t know where to focus my energy. Luckily, Sammie spots this all the time and in her robotic voice, states our favorite mantra: A.C.T or Action Changes Things.
Not sure about my next career step?
Action Changes Things.
Not sure about what to write?
Action Changes Things.
Yes, it’s simple but it’s so helpful to remember that taking action, even one step forward, is a better remedy than thinking through a problem. Particularly when I’m feeling stuck or antsy, chances are I’ve spent so much time thinking that I have paralyzed myself and have forgotten that I can take action. Even a small action.
In this episode of Build A Wealthy Spirit, Sammie and I spell out why taking action is so powerful.
Action is the antidote to perfectionism.
Action is getting started and realizing that it may start messy but likely in that messiness will be the answer to the second step.
Take a listen and let us know if there’s something you’ve been needing to take action on. Or if there’s a good way to get yourself started, I’m always open to hearing great tips.
