198. The Final Push: There Are Only 60 Days to Level Up
The year is almost over! Don't fall off track during the holidays
"There are only 60 days left in the year," Michelle said to me last week. Looking up at her, I flashed back to the bag of green Sour Skittles Gummies I'd demolished at a friend's house just days before. Suddenly, memories flooded in like scenes from a horror movie: the Goodyears and Krackles from a Halloween candy bowl, coconut cake with decaf Earl Grey tea, and those decadent chicken and waffles topped with banana pudding at Paige's in Mt. Pleasant. "She must be stopped," my inner voice screamed.
That's when Michelle and I committed to quitting our recent sugar binge. We started reading Alan Carr's book "Good Sugar Bad Sugar: Eat Yourself Free from Sugar and Carb Addiction." The timing couldn't have been better – the very next day at work, I faced my first test: a Costco-sized box of individually wrapped banana bread bites from a client, plus our manager's secret stash of Halloween candy hidden under the desk.
The holidays have a way of unraveling everything we've worked for throughout the year. From mid-October to December 31st, our carefully crafted healthy habits – diet, exercise, and sleep – seem to fly out the window. Late-night holiday parties, Black Friday shopping sprees, and endless gift-buying occasions pull us in every direction. Before we know it, we're sliding back down the mountain we've spent all year climbing.
But what if we approached this season differently? Instead of letting the holidays blindside us like they do every year, what if we created a game plan? That's exactly what inspired this week's episode. These final two months of the year aren't throwaway months – with proper planning and boundaries, we can prioritize rest, maintain focus, and continue growing.
Tune in to this week's episode for more details on creating your holiday strategy. What are your holiday vices? What trips you up every year – social exhaustion, fatigue, hangovers? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
