Sammie and I were reflecting on the comment that we are “sisters who treat life like an adventure” and what it means to choose your own adventure in this lifetime.
For us, it hasn’t been some wild, risky, adrenaline filled adventure like ice picking in Alaska. Instead, we’ve found adventure by leaning into our intuition and making changes when we want to change the direction of our life. In the past couple years, that included moving to a small, desert town to improve our financial situation and be alone for a bit to reflect and pivot on our life.
Adventure is different for each person. It’s hard to prescribe a best way to do it. However, we highlighted a handful of things we think can help.
The first is to check in with yourself. I’ve spent periods of my life on auto pilot, not realizing I was going in a direction I wasn’t happy with. This includes moving up the corporate ladder and going for promotions I wasn’t excited about.
Another part is building a financial safety net. Some people have no risk aversion and will go on their next adventure with the plan to figure out their finances on the way. I admire that! For me, I’m super risk adverse. When I quit my job, I wanted to make sure I had some money in my savings so that I had a financial runway to support myself while I was not working.
I’d also add, part of embarking on your adventure is having “yes and” energy to the things that you want to do in life. Sometimes we’re shy to try new things, but feel a tug to take a leap. Say “yes” and have faith that you’ll figure out the details as you go.
The final thing to acknowledge is that a lot of us don’t move forward with our adventures because we’re nervous about what other people will say. Sometimes that’s our family or our friends, or even the voice of some teenager you spoke to on a train five years ago. The truth is, no one cares about our lives as much as we do. Sure, they may make an off hand comment, but most people either want the best for you and/or are focused on themselves. So push pass those fears and lean into your next adventure!
Are you thinking of taking a new adventure soon? Is there something else holding you back? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.

Have you had a frustrating flight delay or cancellation in the past three years? I’ve had 3 in the past year! I was so excited to find AirHelp because I love saving money without wasting my time. I gave my flight information to AirHelp and they did the work of reaching out to the airlines and seeing if there was some compensation I was entitled to after my flight issues.
