When I started working, I quickly hit my own metric for success. I wanted to be financially independent from my parents, and after I moved to San Francisco, I had achieved that. I was paying my own rent, bills and had money left over.
After that, I saved a little and spent a lot. I was #livingmybestlife in the city. The thing is, for a few years, I enjoyed my life and lived within my own narrow definition of success. A idea of success that was based on my image of myself I created when I was young and likely influenced by all the sitcoms showing fancy women living large in big cities.
When I decided to leave my job, I had to reconsider how I defined success. I knew I wanted to move away from sales but didn’t have a clear vision of what I wanted to do next for my job. What I did know was that I wanted to podcast and write. I noticed though I was shedding traditional markers of success and had to redefine that for myself.
This episode, Sammie and I talk about how to review and redefine success for yourself. We break it down into three steps. First, review your goals and see if they still fit or if they are outdated. Second, make a plan of action, even if you can’t act on it right away. Third, find communities of people who are living life in a way that you want to align your own.
